Hermann Lücke

Hello

I have read that Hermann Lücke (78 victories, RK, died of wounds 8 November 1943) was involved in two incidents while serving with 3./JG 54 in January 1942. The first purportedly occurred on 9 January when he force-landed his Bf 109 F-2 "Yellow 10" (W.Nr. 5489) due to engine trouble and the second is said to have occurred on 20 January when he again force-landed his Bf 109 F-2 "Yellow 10" (W.Nr. 5489) this time due to a technical fault. However, the QM 6 does not list the first incident and the cause of the second emergency landing is listed as having been due to enemy fire at Wjenjadolowo. Would any one be able to clarify these two incidents? Did the first incident occur and if so where? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Hermann Lücke

Per the "Bible according to Prien" the first incident on 9.01.42 is listed as "Motorschaden. Notlandung, Krasnogwardeisk, unter 10%." The second on 20.01.42 is listed as "technische Mängel, Notlandung, Wjenjadodow, 20%."
(Jagdfliegerverbände der Luftwaffe, Teil 9/I. p. 203)

Regards,
Tom

Hello Tom

Many thanks for your response. All this helps complete what one knows about this ace who was highly successful in the summer of 1943. Perhaps you would be interested to know that the aircraft with which his Fw 190 A-5 “Yellow 10” (W.Nr. 0157 206) collided with on 23 October 1943 during take-off at Kosinskiy was the Fw 190 A-5 (W.Nr. 410 027) of Oberleutnant Wilhelm Laufer. He later died of the wounds received in this incident. Many thanks for your input.

Horrido!

Leo
