Henschel Hs 124 Travemunde

Hallo All,

I have recently purchased Horst Materna's Die Gechichte der Henschel Flugzeug-Weke.He mentions that the Hs 124 V-4 was delivered to the E-Stelle Travemunde on 2 June 1939. Earlier works do not even mention that a fourth prototype was built so this was new to me. There is no mention of the Hs 124 V4 in the list of aircraft at Travemunde in Beavais, Kosseler et als German Secret Flight Test Centres.

So to my question. Are either a civil registration or a Stkz known for the Hs 124 and for what purpose was it employed at Travemunde and what was the eventual fate of the aircraft.

It is mentioned in Henschel documents as "umbau auf Stuka" in 1938 so possibly this could be a clue to the purpose.

Hello Tom,

I'm at work at the moment and will post again if my memory is erroneous but the WNr you list are those in the book. However, the V3 is described as the Export V2 and the four machines as V1, V2,Export V2 and V4, which does seem a little unusual.

V1 = 268
V2 = 269
V4 = 270

The V3 was ordered by RLM in Nov 1936 to be developed as High altitude reconnaissance aircraft, but this was soon cancelled and the V3 remained only a mock-up. In orther words the V3 didn't have anything to do with the conversion of the V2 for export purposes.

However I was wondering more generally if there are any WNR mentioned in the book. I was told there was none and have thus disregarded the book entirely and hopefully waiting for something better.

In your opinion are enough WNr mentioned for me to invest in it?

Hello Stig,

Probably not enough WNr for your needs. The Wnr for the prototypes of the various Henschel made machines are given, other than that, while the occasional Wnr is mentioned in the text this is not an area on which Horst Materna has focused.
