Re: Four places in Italy ?
Hi Alex,
I entered the 4th in a search on italian wikipedia and got the answer zona di Roma. Guess what I'm saying in a long-winded way is a search on italian wiki might work. Regards, Clint |

Just to confirm, I've since looked on Italian wikipedia and the other locations are there too.Although Madna is in Algeria. So I'm not sure if that helps. Regards, Clint |

Re: Four places in Italy ?
I find that searching via Google Maps or Google Earth is usually productive (unless you want a place named after at saint and then there multiple choices). I'm surprised Marcigliana didn't show up though, the Luftwaffe was using the airfield there in early 1944.

Re: Four places in Italy ?
Alex
Canne (the airfield) was NOT at Canne della Battaglia in Apulia, the location of Hannibal's victory in 216BC. The airfield referred to by the Allies as Canne was a mile or so SSE of Campomarino (Province of Campobasso). To be more precise it was located where the village of Cianaluca now stands. If you look at satellite imagery of Cianaluca, you'll note that it has an unusually straight and wide main street, the location of the old PSP runway at Canne. HTH Niall |

Re: Four places in Italy ?
Thank you all for your response, it has given me the results that I wanted. All I have to do now is look them up on a map of Italy, which I have to hand.

Re: Four places in Italy ?
Hello Alex,
if you look here I tried to enter in a google map the allied and german coordinates from documents and intelligence, and if possible sketches of the main wwii airfields in Italy. You can find most of the ones you mentioned. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...000000019&z=11 |
