Re: Ot kolhoznika Koneva
Does anyone know more about this La5? I mean, subseries, engine? Is it an 5F or a 5FN?
The regiment indeed used 5F's during the fighting near Iasi in mid-1944. PS: Very interesting thread, thanks for sharing all the infos! |

Re: Ot kolhoznika Koneva
It was a La-5FN, S/N probably something like 3921??14, after Kozhedub it was used by the 178 GvIAP ace, K. A. Evstigneev. (Fuselage number '14' was the last 2 digits of the serial number, painted on still at the Gorky No. 21 factory.) - (Big white La-5 fuselage call numbers were all the end part of their factory serials. This is a big help for the reconstruction of the recovered planes.)
It was lost in February, 1945 on the Dunakeszi (Alag), Hungary airfield after crashlanding & dogfight with Fw 190Fs in the Budapest area. Evstigneev scored several victories flying this plane, eg. a Ju 52 NW of Budapest during the German January 16, 1945 airlift, etc. Gabor |
