Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hello
I'm looking for some info. In my first search I thought that the Wrk-Nr 709346 was the werknumber of a Ju 88 of a Fw 190 I have continued my search. The Wrk-nr seems to be the serial number of a DB 605 flugmotor that was mounted in a Bf 109. The 3 first digits designate the factory that builded the 605 engine. 007 = Daimler-Benz Motoren GmbH, Genshagen Kreis Teltow (DB 605A) my werknummer is 007 09346 I found the link on a webpage about two Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/U2 who landed in 1944 in the UK. One of the Bf 109 had Werk-Nummer: 412 951 and was provided with a Daimler-Benz DB 605 A-1, Werk Nummer 007 07111 I hope I can find someone on this forum who has an indication which engine number was mounted in which plane Bf 109. Thanks |

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hi,
Interesting post. As you may probably know the engines where changed frequently during wartime and in the height of combat missions engines were damaged, so records may not have been kept up to date. It may be possible to locate some of these documents in the Military Archives in Germany. It would be nice if such documents exist, as also for the DB601. Best of Luck Kind Regards |

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hi , thanks for your reaction
Yes ,I will have to continue my search. The data plate with the number on was found on a former NJG base in Belgium where they flew on Bf 110 . In the Bf 110 was also the DB engine used. Other possibility is that the engine was mounted in a Bf 109. On the plate is also marked 9-44. I suppose this means that the engine was made in september 1944. Possibly it belongs to the remains of an aircraft lost during operation Bodenplatte when several raids took place against the american squadrons stationed on the former NJG base Greeting Pauke pauke |

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hello Pauke pauke,
I am enjoying this discussion of your DB605 Motornummern. I have culled a few nearby examples from my DB605 database file and am including them here for context. DB605A-1, MNr. 007/08644 DB605A-1, MNr. 007/08302 DB605A, MNr. 007/09346 (yours) DB605/ASO*, MNr. 007/08524 (AS rebuild #1548) DB605/ASO*, MNr. 007/08767 (AS rebuild #1720) DB605/ASO*, MNr. 007/08822 (AS rebuild #177?) *These ”ASO” designations are provisional in light of the ongoing discussion whether it is actually ASO or AS0 (zero, not O). Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
paukepauke,
I believe Mr Schmitt told it like it is, that records will be sparse on that type of information. The He219 that was discovered off shore in Denmark had the tail missing and sand had eroded all markings from the aircraft exterior, so the aircraft WNr. is unknown. One engine was found and the Motornummern was learned. It is a DB603. I had requested the Deutsches Museum archives to see what they had on that engine since they hold historical records from Daimler-Benz, to try and match the engine to an airframe. Their response stated they do not have any documents with that type of information. I personally picked up a DB605A1 data plate, with evidence of scorching/fire. I found it at a flea market, and so far haven't found anything on it. Personally I think Steve Sheflin is the about the best source for WWII German engines. Best of luck in your endeavour. Tony |

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hi
Inderdeed the data plate was found on the former NJG base from Brustem , St-Trond . Base to several well known nightfighter aces. During the American period it was known as A-92. The base figurend during the German and American period as a collection point for the remains of crashed planes . Greetings Paukepauke |

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
I would like to revive this old thread with the question: is there an acccessible database of DB 605 engine constr. numbers? I have over a hundred such numbers of non-German '109s, and would be nice to see their history, or at least their validity. Thanks, in advance.

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Another question related to DB 605 engine: could the DB 605AB, or DB 605D engine freely be attached to the Bf 109G-6 airfames, replacing the standard DB 605A-1 engine?
Thanks,

Re: Bf 109 with DB 605 engine SEARCH engine serial number
Hey Steve,
It is an "O", not a "0". See below data plate. Font style is different than a "0". Mike Quote:
