The first shot is a captured Soviet SB bomber.

How come you are so sure it is not an original SB, from the markings?

Your right Ruy... I'm not 100% sure...

I was going on the asumption that most of the Beute B.71's were licence-built Ant.40's. The list below is an example of the SE+ code and w.nr's a group of us are currently putting together:

Re: Photos 4-13-05

Good grief guys! How how can one tell the difference between a B-71 and an SB 2 M-100 from that picture!

According to M. Maslov, in his Tuolev SB monograph (a fantastic book), both captured SB and B-71s operated together in LW service

One way may be the location of the swastika. If it is on the rudder it is a B-71, if it is on the fin it is an SB. Good a way as any.

Re: Photos 4-13-05

Thanks for the insight Steven...

In that case then, the image is of an SB-2 as per Ruy's suggestion. The swastika on the rudder/fin check is a new one on me! Wonder why the difference?

BTW, is there anything in the monograph matching W.Nr.s with types or Luftwaffe codes?

Cheers

Re: Photos 4-13-05

Hasn't SB-2 become a "no no" designation?

However, judging by the photo captions in Tupolev SB in Action, the Swastika position could differ on B-71s, being positioned on the rudder, but sometimes on the fin.

Of course old Hans-Heiri Stapfer could be wrong!

You can call it anything you want.

I hope everyone realizes I was being a bit facetious about the swastika placement.
