Re: Rudo Božík - slovak fighter ace in WWII and his Bf 109 G's

As the source of photos is mentioned Rudo Boziks family...However quality of some seems to be taken from some publication. There has been published a book about Bozik in Czech, and I assume some shots may be taken from this book.

Point taken; only I don't see any small airscoop under the windshield, the tell-tale feature of all unpressurized G types without "Beulen" (G-2, G-4). This leaves us with the Bf 109 G-1 or G-3, given there are no "Beulen" to be seen...

The quickest way to differentiate a pressurized variant (G-1, G-3, G-5) from its unpressurized counterpart (G-2, G-4, G-6) is to look for the desiccant pellets in the lateral windshield panels*. No pellets, no G-1/G-3/G-5.

Besides that, the use of these sub-variants was concentrated in a few units of Western Front. It will be extremely rare to find one in a Slovak unit.

* even if the pressurization systems has been disconnected/removed (with the installation of a Erla-Haube, for example)

Re: Rudo Božík - slovak fighter ace in WWII and his Bf 109 G's

Ian,

Many many thanks for all precisions given; I do appreciate them highly. The B-24/Bf 110 G story is truly a great one!

Thanks again!

the_ivan,

I was still hooked on the absence/presence of the small air scoops under the windshield... You thus expanded my knowledge on my favorite aircraft! Thanks for doing that.

Cheers
Marc

Hi Franck

I have it as 199330...but this does look like it is a typo with the source. One too many figures! 19330 seems correct.

Happy New Year
Ian
