Photo Hurricane SD-K Page 308 BoFtaN

On page 308 of the Battle of France Then and Now there is a photo of a Hurricane SD-K taken by Eric Marden of 145 Sqn. He took a photo 'SD-K' at Westhampnett - Does a better definition of this picture exist ?

The reason I ask is that I believe it to be L2055 'K' which was the regular mount of FL/Lt E S Williams of 501 Sqn in the BoF- This aircraft was flown by him on the 10th, 11th , 12th and 13th May 1940 - And was the aircraft he used when he claimed a Do-17 on 11th between (05:00 and 06:30) and another on 12 between (16:30 and 17:10) - I was wondering if serial was discernible?

L2055 obviously made in back to the UK after the BoF as on 11th June 1941 while with 56 OTU it spun into ground West Walton, Norfolk.

L2055 is listed as having gone to 1 Sq after 501, then to 111, then to 56 OTU. No mention of any time in 145.

Graham thanks I suspect it landed at Westhampnett on evacuation flight from France while still with 501 Sqn they went via Channel Islands unless it was a resurrected "lame duck" which made it back like those organised by Louis Strange

OK. Understood now. Coincidentally from this period I have N2586 SD.B as a cuckoo in 607's nest - I think the story is in Cull's 12 Days in May.

Re: Photo Hurricane SD-K Page 308 BoFtaN

OK It has been kindly pointed out to me that it is "SO-K" not "SD-K" (must be the angle of the picture)!

So as SO is 145 Sqn then it is Hurricane I P3221 and it all makes sense!

Sorry for confusion

Paul
