II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Hi,
SOooo ... it appears II./JG53 made a pit stop at Le Bourget: When? (some logbooks for example?) Thanks for any help you can provide. Regards, Franck. https://www.ebay.de/itm/N350-Frankre...4AAOSwFwhfl-5~ |

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Perhaps the Gruppe provided extra security for AH visit to Paris 25 - 28 June 1940.
The Gruppe remained in France, and its last combat loss in the Westfeldzug was recorded on 9 June, while the last victories of the campaign were claimed on 8 June 1940. Regards, Sinisa |

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Regarding AH security, my uncle provided 109 top cover during this visit, whilst with JG3.

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Could you please tell us which JG 3 Gruppe your uncle belonged to, and which other Gruppen may have been involved in the escort?

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Thank you ... No Idea, but II./JG53 left Vraux for Dinan and the Capitulation was signed on that day at Rethondes(Forêt de Compiègne) AH being there .
It's possible part of II./JG53 remained at Paris. So, 22 June onward seems a strong possibility. |

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
e.g.
somebody from 4./JG53 made a stop-over at Le Bourget on 17.7.40 while en route from Dinan to Sandhofen. |

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
I found many other entries with Paris/Le Bourget in other logbooks so this was a common place for pilots of JG53 to make stop-overs.

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
He was an acting CO of 4. JG3 until June 30, then CO of 9. JG3 from July 1.

Re: II./JG53 at Le Bourget
Thank you for your comments.
We now have II./JG 3 flying escort for AH's visit to Paris in late June 1940. II./JG 53 may have been involved also, although the photo taken at Le Bourget could have been taken at one of the Gruppe's stop-overs there in late June - July 1940. |
