Hi Ed. The B-24s are 458th BG from Horsham, nearest is B-24J-1-FO (note the anti-glare style) 42-50575 at the time coded 7V-O then J3-O, the last 3 of the serial and a/c letter were marked on for the ferry flight to US in June 1945--- Ferry Flight 41. 575 was on the Magdeburg mission of 2 March 1945 as J3-O. The numbers-letters were probably marked large as other Groups were leaving from Horsham.
eg. 42-50502 7V-E was marked as "502-E", Crew 63.

Hi Nick,

Thank you very much. Allied aircraft and operations are not my strong suit.

Best,
Ed

Ed The F6F-5 pilot (the early model with window behind the cockpit) looks like Bert De Wayne Morris, VF-15 on "Essex"; the pre-war actor with 7 victories. Not certain though.
Fittingly he died of a heart attack in 1959 on the USS "Bon Homme Richard".
He was related to the AG15 Commander, David McCampbell.
