Question Unit insignia for 3./JG 26

Hello all,

I am trying to find if 3./JG 26 used any kind of emblem or insignia, especially on their Bf-109 Es. I find it hard to believe that this unit didn't have any insignis as all the other staffels seemed to display theirs with great pride on everything from car bumbers, Christmas Cards, above office doors, flags and bunting even down to napkin rings and dinner services! I have seen examples of all the above for most staffels so why not 3./JG26??

In all my reference books I draw a blank. Can you help?

Regards

Chris

Re: Unit insignia for 3./JG 26

Chris,

I hold a very comprehensive photo data base that includes just about every 3./JG26 Bf109E photo from 1940 ever published, and many that haven't been. This includes full access to the collections of Prien, Caldwell and many others. None of these photos display an insignia for 3 Staffel. As I'm sure you're aware, that unit adopted a flying eagle clutching a bomb around the end of 1940, and into the first half of 1941. This is illustrated on page 299 of Prien's JFV Vol 4/I. If you or anyone else ever finds evidence of an insignia for that unit during 1940, I'd certainly appreciate knowing about it.

Regards,

Re: Unit insignia for 3./JG 26

Hi Chris

Speaking of 109 Es, I think that the bomb carrying eagle is well known and it is supposed not to be a personal but a unit emblem.
There are some photos (Caldwell- Photo History of JG26, and others).
Sorry but I cannot be more specific. I'm not at home.

Regards, saludos
