Russian transport shot down July 1941

Hi guys

According to Admiral Golovoko's 'With the Red Fleet' four Russian transports attempted to fly arms and ammunition from Moscow to Murmansk in early July 1941 but one was shot down by a Soviet fighter, which itself was shot down shortly thereafter.

I'm interested in all and any details - date, location, aircraft/crews involved.

The only lead is that the transport unit was commanded by Heroine of the Soviet Union Valentina Grizodubova, although she was not necessarily flying on this occasion.

Cheers
Brian

Brian,
She was in command of the 101st Transport Aviation Regt GVF in 1941. It then became the 101 AP ADD performing night time bombings and resupply behind the frontlines. Sorry, I couldn't find more.

Thanks for that, Nokose.

I believe the transport shot down was an Li-2.

I hope someone can help further.

Cheers

Re: Russian transport shot down July 1941

Hi guys

I've just found the following on a Russian website. Does this fit the bill?

184 10 10 not known PS-84 Soviet Air Force d/d jun41 with Wright engine cowlings; opb NII VVS at Chkalovski; in two-tone camo c/s with natural metal undersides; damaged 29jun41 on a flight from Chkalovski to Pskov-Kresty with technical personnel of 402 IAP on board when the landing gear did not lower, as the aircraft was shot at by Soviet fighters from the 8 sad and by Soviet anti-aircraft artillery by mistake, the crew opted for an immediate belly landing; the damaged aircraft was still present 03jul41 but as it could not be recovered in time it was burnt before 26jul41 to prevent it falling into German hands

Cheers
Brian
