Battle of German Bight.
If attaching succeeded, you will see a map of the Wellingtons' route to the point where they were attacked by 34 Bf109s of 10/JG26, 11/JG77, 11/ZG1 and a number of Bf110s of 1/ZG76, and the location (marked with a cross) where the fighter pilots claim they made kills and the rough time.
All the fighters were stationed at Jever, although some were dispersed to Wangerooge. Does anyone know when the fighters got airborne; whether they attacked individually or in formation; whether any landed to refuel during the running battle; how it was possible for the official count to have been 45 Wellingtons when nearly two hundred thousand people living in Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven could see 22 Wellingtons fly over at 13,000 feet in clear skies; whether any bombs fell on ships in Wilhelmshaven Roads as the RAF claimed but the Luftwaffe denied; and whether any photographs and researched accounts exist of the battle. |
