Hptm. Herwig Knüppel II./JG26
Oberleutnant Herwig Knüppel: 8 victories in the Spanish Civil War and 3 kills in WWII.
Hptm Herwig Knüppel was Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 26 from 28 June 1939 to 19 May 1940 when he was KIA. What can be found about the combat in the German archives about him that day when he was KIA ? Cheers

According to Prien's Jagdflieger Vol III and Don Caldwell's books, he was KIA in Luftkampf with Hurricane from 615 Sq. (F/O Eyre).

My hope goes to you for help in this 2 incidents both were members of Jagdguppe 88.
What can be found about them? Wolfgang Schellmann: 5 victories in the Spanish Civil War and 14 kills WWII, KIA 22 June 1941. Otto-Heinrich von Houwald: 5 victories in the Spanish Civil War. KIA 24 July 1941. Cheers
