Our Friend Dan

Hi good fellows!

Any one able to reach Dan O'Connel ?
I'm afraid there is a problem.
I hope not, I really hope not but he never used to be so silent.
Any help will be welcome. Thank you.

Franck.

PS: I forgot. Dan is a "Ham" and is radio code ID is W7TDZ. I'm sure the radio community can reach him.
A "Ham" is a person "hammering" morse !

Re: Our Friend Dan

Sadly, it looks as if Dan passed in June.

Re: Our Friend Dan

Hi Steve,

Thank you for finding and posting Dan's obituary. It confirms our darkest fears. I have missed his comments and corrections to my posts. Just to underline Dan's important contribution to the research into the history of the Me 262, I had to buy a second copy of his Production Log because the first one literally came apart due to the wear and tear of my constant use of it. I, for one, will miss him.

with sadness,

Jim Geens

Franck:

"While it may not be used in practice as much today, up until 1991, in order to get an entry-level ham license, you were required to demonstrate you could copy Morse code messages. Because Morse proficiency is not required these days, many amateurs today don’t bother learning the skill." (Wikipedia)

It's almost all voice now, Franck.

Re: Our Friend Dan

That's a huge shame. I corresponded with him relatively recently over the Me262 Flieger's Flugbuch I own and he was massively helpful to me, struck me as a truly lovely guy. RIP.
