Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

It's quite simple:

Erprobungsgruppe 210 -> renamed I./SKG 210 in April 1941 -> renamed I./ZG 1 in January 1942

All through those changes the code remained S9.

Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

@John:
I think III. Gruppe ZG 76 listed all the time in the loss lists 2N code. Maybe machines were form ZG 1, and due to never finished 9th Staffel and thus unit readiness (on paper) it never changed the code to M8?

Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

Erprobungsgruppe 210
1. Staffel upon formation had Bf 110 C-6s that they brought with them from 1./ZG 1. The unit code on the C-6s remained as '2N' until 1. Staffel received their first batch of fighter-bombers in early August 1940, when the code 'S9' was implemented on all the Bf 110s of 1. Staffel.

Peter,
If you have copies of any loss lists, I would be most interested to see them posted, as that would update all our knowledge.

As far as photos of Bf 110 G-2s in 1944 go, check out my 'Zerstörer, volume 2' by Classic, pages 174 onwards, to see various photos of late-war Bf 110 G-2s with the different unit codes.

Also, page 105 of 'Sting of the Luftwaffe' shows two photos that have been incorrectly ascribed to ZG 76 over the years. Since publication I received the name of the tall officer in the top photo (II./ZG 1), but it's away in the Archive with the rest of my stuff now.

Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

meia culpa!! I mistaken codes..2N for 3U.
Sorry...there is coulple of losses of III./ZG 76 machines lost on 9.10.1943 with 3U codes...none for 2N...
I always knew that 2N must be misidentification so NO plane of III. Gruppe ZG 76 had 2N code!

Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

Evgeny,

You're wrong about Stab, II & III./ZG 26 using 'U8'. They did not! Only I. Gruppe used 'U8'.

And see my earlier comment about 1. Staffel, Erprobungsgruppe 210 from its formation to early August 1940.

Re: Zerstörer - Unit codes

Evgeny,

I think this is incorrect also:
Panzerjägerstaffel Staffel Zerstörergeschwader 1 "Wespe"
- "S9+_X", used from 6.43 to 8.43;

As far as I am aware, they used 'S' as a fourth character in their code, as has been discussed on this forum or another (LEMB?) recently.
