A Wehrpass from 3./KG 30

Good evening!
I have, with a little luck, attached a file from a Wehrpass in my collection.

I have had this and some of this pilots papers, and for years, I have wanted to build a model of his plane, but have not had the luck of finding any information concerning the loss.

The pilots name is Uffz. Hans Selk and he participated in the campaign in Poland, flying with 10.(See)LG 2, before being transferred to 3./KG 30 on the 15. of Sept. 1939.

In the Wehrpass it says that he was killed on the 10. of Oct.
"Tödlich verunglückt", but I am not sure if this was in combat????

His paper was returned rather late to his family and are signed by the Stkpt. from 3./KG 30 in Aug. 25, 1942, but I cannot read his signature.
Does anyone know, who he was???

Sorry this long letter
Thank You in advance
Christian

Tödlich verunglückt-means died in an accident. If that is all it doesn't specifically mention aircraft, it could have been an automobile accident.

Re: A Wehrpass from 3./KG 30

Hello!

Yes I realize that. Still I have also seen the expression used, when aircrafts were involved. Therefore I have a little hope, that it also might be a possibility in this case.

Best wishes
Christian

Re: A Wehrpass from 3./KG 30

Hi :

I have this info, your member of 3./KG 30 might have been involved in this loss. First known loss of life by KG 30 - stated a day late perhaps?
(or baleout ocurring around midnight?)

.... Ju 88 A I/KG 30 (Luftflotte 2)
OPS (F) missing (100%) from operation in the North Sea [was hit by warships AA fire and later crashed in the North Sea <nr Viking Bank> ´near Kamp´] 09.10.1939 (Oblt. Konrad Kahl and three mis; two baled out and survived, two killed)

[see Shores & co-authors: ´Fledgling Eagles´ P.85 and Carsten Petrsen in ´Tyske Fly I Danmark´ Vol.3 (He 111 and Ju 88) P.8: This was when force of 127 He 111 of Stab, I and II/KG 26, II and III/LG 1, together with 21 Ju 88 of I/KG 30 were sent out after Royal Navy Warships in the Nort Sea. Four Ju 88 and a few of the He 111 found the ships in conditions of bad visibility but scored no confirmed hits. Two He 111´s landing out of fuel in Denmark afterwards (they were 1H+NM near Nymindegab and 1H+LM at Fanö, both of 4./KG 26). This was the first operational loss of an Ju 88 ~ Shore´s say it of 3./KG 30; nr Viking Bank fm other source. This operation costing Luftwaffe one Ju 88, three He 111, one He 59 flotplane and one Do 18 flying boat.]

cheers

Staffelkapitän 3./KG 30 on 25 August 1942 was Oblt. von Goldacker.

Re: A Wehrpass from 3./KG 30

Thank You very much Ed and Rune!

This is highly interesting!!!! I know it is far too early to say, but what a peace of history, if this pilot turns out to be one of the first losses from KG 30.
I have attached a page showing his way up until his death in ´39.
Thank You again.

Christian

Re: A Wehrpass from 3./KG 30

Thank you John!
Having studied his papers a little closer it says, that he died in an airplane crash (Fliegertod), so maybe he was on a training mission this day.
His family lived at that time in Kiel, so that makes sense, that he is burried there.
Best wishes
Christian

Thank you Douglas. I hope that one day it will be possible to find out, what plane Selk was flying.
