What is this?

Again, found in the late Alfred Price's photos. It looks familiar to me but nothing on the back of the photo

Re: What is this?

Chris,

Purely as a matter of interest. There is an uncropped, clear shot of the same photograph (between pp.140-1), in the first English edition of Gebhard Ader's, History Of The German Night Fighter Force 1917-1945, Jane's,1979. Caption reads, Do 17Z-10 fitted with oblique armament and aerials for the Lichtenstein B-0 gun-firing set. The photo was sourced from, "Malchow". No mention, as such, in the acknowledgements.

Col.

Re: What is this?

Thanks all. Obviously the likes of Aders etc were in touch with Alfred many years ago so it is possible they all exchanged photos and info then. Looking at the headgear, the photo must have been taken later in the war

Re: What is this?

Ed & myself have corresponded on this. The official designations of 80 years ago are now being changed for journalistic reasons (i.e saving print space). I have had to change as "this is our magazine style" even if historically it is wrong. I guess we will have to accept such changes so don't shoot the messenger!

Re: What is this?

But how do we know that it is a Z-10? There is no feature in the photo that confirms that it is a Z-10, on the contrary I've not seen any Z-10 carrying the additional armament mounted in the side windows which is present in this photo.

It would be nice to see the technical report for this experiment...
