Re: Photo LVG C.V
Hello,
Currently on ebay are a collection of photos including a photo of LVG C.V 3207/17 at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...gAAOSwcwVfcMVE Aircraft of Schusta 27b carried a chevron marking, so given the Bavarian link, possibly C.3207/16 is an aircraft of that unit. Regards, Clint |

Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of LVG C.V 3243//17 named Daisy seemingly either of a Bavarian unit or at least crewed by a Bavarian. https://www.ebay.de/itm/235897478874...Bk9SR8ip0tmFZQ Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo LVG C.V
And there is a "sister" aircraft from the same unit here
https://www.ebay.de/itm/235900128494...90.c101224.m-1 First I dismissed it as the same aircraft in your photo (the quality is not really tip-top) but it is not! The Bestellnummer is different. Right now I am too lazy to go through a lot of photos to try and determine if this quite odd digit 7 (or is it something else?) actually is a unit marking or if the same pilot had two aircraft assigned to him. Any thoughts? Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo LVG C.V
Hi Stig,
I thought that the seller had several interesting photos somewhat ruined by a blight of bluespot. That is why I posted just the one photo I felt was most interesting. As for the other photo you linked to,as you say difficult to read the serial, but I 've used 3325/16 as a 'placeholder' Now on to your question. If I had felt definite I'd have gone with FA (A) 250 as the unit. But I'm not definite and I am unable to reach a decision on whether the marking we see is a stylised 7,whether it is a tactical number or whether it is a unit marking. Still, and bear in mind this is a structure bearing a heavy load with little certainty, it may be that the unit is FA (A) 250. Have a look at the LVG C.IV in vol.2 P.103 of Aeronaut's LVG aircraft and see what you think. A point that may speak against this is the Bavarian markings on the tailplane. I also not that the seller has a photo of a crashed Albatros D.Va 7214/17 (I think) flown by von Manteuffel, earlier with FA (A) 292b,is there any link with the other machines? I don't know. Re: Photo LVG C.V
Afternoon Clint
I cannot more than agree with you that FA(A) 250 looks completely possible. And some kind of unit marking feels more and more likely! Too much of a co-incidence that all preserved photos were taken vs one single pilot. The Albatros D.V has been identified before as D.7214/17 so prob correct. What is interesting to me is that the name von Manteuffel is mentioned. The crash seems quite terminal and the most likely pilot was von Manteuffel-Szöge who was shot down 8 May 1918. He is not mentioned with the previous unit FA(A) 292b you state. Perhaps you have a different von Manteuffel in mind? Cheers Stig |
