Daimler-Benz DB 605 Engine Dataplate

A Hungarian colleague of mine has found the dataplate of a Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine:
Constr. No: 00200334
Manufacturer's code: DFH

Can any details be found on this particular engine?
Which company manufactured it?

Thanks,

Hi.

According to 'Liste der Fertigungskennzeichen für Waffen, Munition und Gerät' dated 1944, this dataplate points to a company called:

Carl Fickert Maschinenfabrik, in Schwarzenback/Saale

Probably manufactured part of the engine??

Regards,
Andreas B

"Probably manufactured part of the engine??"

AFAIK (via USSBS) there was no assembly of DB 605s in Schwarzenback/Saale.. of course USSBS could be wrong.

Below is a close-up shot of the serial number and manufacturer's code I just received.

Now that I see the actual photo, it occurs to me that the second letter could be a faulty stamped 'E' instead of 'F'.

Any comments?

Of course, you can misunderstand what was said, "Probably manufactured (a) part of(/for) the engine".

Anyone know what part/component/piece of/for the DB engine this company was making?

Reportedly, it's stamped on the front side of the engine block, just above the reducer's location.

Re: Daimler-Benz DB 605 Engine Dataplate

Greetings Dénes and everyone,

A very interesting topic, indeed. In my limited DB 605 database I have four entries from the “004” series:

A-1 004 00267, maker unknown, source and location not noted
A-1 004 00295, maker kwn, source and location not noted
AM 004 04074, maker unknown, source and location not noted
A-1 004 50224, maker unknown, No. 1 FIU RAF, Report No. 61
(mounted on Bf 109 G-8 WNr. 201 523 at Zeltwig, Austria)

If your 004 00334 is a Motornummer, it does fit within this limited series in my list. Interestingly, neither “DFH” nor “DEH” appear in any of the 220 entries in my database. Most DB 605s in my files were manufactured by: hsr, hss and hsq.

The following makers also appear in my DB 605 list and I have no idea whom they might be: kwn, nhl, oiz, jlt, NNZ, and now either DFH or DEH.

Also of interest is the stamped number “1908” visible below the “DFH.” DB 605 AS engines were actually rebuilt from standard “A” blocks and carried an “AS” rebuild number. These were often a four-digit number (the highest one I have seen is 18353). The majority of “AS” engines documented were from the 007 series (with two stragglers from the 002 series). Is there any chance that this is an “AS” engine?

Best regards,

Steve Sheflin
