Date: near the end of the war. (February or March or April 1945?) the Me109 pilot had also forenoon on the same day a crash at the area of the City Freiburg. the homebase of the Me109 Pilot was the airfield at Philippsburg. Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
Klaus, if possible you need to narrow down the date a little. In the time period you list, there are over 1500 109 losses known. This does not include those never recorded in those last chaotic months of the war. Often, the location is not listed or very specific.

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
I've checked the homebase "Philippsburg" at the ww2.dk website and I don't find any unit with this homebase. Are you sure with that location?

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
Nearest Fl.Pl. was Kirrlach (5km crow flight from Philippsburg) used by III./JG 53 from 12/44 to 3/45

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
Gentlemen,
AFAIK, the only front line units flying 109 in this area between February and April 1945 were JG 53 (without I. Gruppe), parts of NAGr. 13 and I./NJG 11. But Klaus: what makes you shure about a 109 lost in combat with a P-51 - and not a 190 and a P-47? Where did the date come from? Regards, Heuser |

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
during this time JG 53 had dozens off losses in this area, my tip got part III of Mr. Priens JG 53 chronicle, from my memory, a 109 was downed by a P-51 near Neckartailfingen end of February, but there are much more.

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
Hello all,
a Eyewithness told me about the dogfight, 3, P-51 had the dogfight with the Me109. 1990 the Me109 was found during House work in 3 m deep near the City Sandhausen. You are right the Me109 can be also from the JG53 where had the hombase in Kirrlach 8 km far from the crashside. The intresting and important think is that the Pilot had two crashes at this day!! in the morning at Freiburg and afternoon at Sandhausen. Is any way to find out the name of the Pilot? The date can be also March. Thank you very much for your help. regards Klaus |

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg
Hi Klaus,
I think some did try to answer and are interesting to help you - That is part of the game. But please, can you give us more tips. - An eyewitness said it was a dog fight with P-51, why not? it's acceptable. But: If I follow your last post, you wrote: "The Bf 109 was found in 1990 ... " (sic) 1/ How did you get it was based in Philippsburg? 2/ How did you get the pilot was shot down twice the same day? If so, that means you got more than what you say, because it's not recovering a wreck that you can know he was shot twice the same day. So? It's up to you. Regards, Franck. |
