Re: Bf 109 E, WNr.1990

Hello,

The EOE DB carries W.Nr. 1990 as Tiedmann's:

"August 18, 1940: 2./JG3 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 (1990). Damaged in combat with fighters and belly-landed in Abbey Field, Park Barn, adjacent to Leeds Castle Park, 1.50 p.m. FF Oberlt Helmut Tiedmann (Staffelkapitän) unhurt, evaded capture but apprehended north of Broomfield after 12 hours at large. Aircraft Black 13 + 100% write-off.
Flare pistol taken at the time now held by the Hawkinge Aeronautical Trust."

Regards,

Re: Bf 109 E, WNr.1990

Thanks Larry for the confirmation.
Yes, it seems Tiedmann did wander around for a while since it is said he spoke english (Alfred Price).
StfKpt with a "Black 13"! another exception? Or a spare plane? Note At that time Tiedmann was credited with at least 7 victories (12 maybe?) and no indication of them on rudder?

Regards, Franck.

Re: Bf 109 E, WNr.1990

does anyone have a picture of Oblt. Helmut Tiedmann? Here is some info and pics I got from his plane and some of his medals on my facebook account. You can access it even if you don't have fb. Does anyone know more about what happened to him after he got captured?

Re: Bf 109 E, WNr.1990

My db loss entry with sources (would be the same as GRM's since he is "co-author" of the this db). As to what happened to him, I would suspect he ended up in Canada like many other POWs from this time. Just a guess of course.
