Hi Rottler

1st Lt Hommel initial grave was at Kimratshofen cemetery in the close vicinity of the crash site of the B-17 42-97584 at the Duracher Berg.
In Sep 2013 I was at the site with JPAC and the team was searching for 4 aircrew of this aircraft.

Regards
Jörg

Re: 483rd bg July 18 1944

Hi Jörg,

the 42-97584 blew up in mid air. If Memhölz was not the crash site the Air Base Command Kaufbeuren has mixed up this aircraft with another B-17.
By the way the MACR 7097 listed in post #4 relates to the B-17 42-46267, not 44-6267.

Regards
Leo

Hi,

the serial 42-46267 in MACR 7097 is an error, 44-6267 is correct.

Leo,
I fully agree with the serial 44-6267 (iaw Roger A. Freeman). Concerning the location MEMHÖLZ I believe the B-17 42-97671, 2nd Lt Gussarson, 483rd BG, MACR 6976 came down.

Cheers
Jörg
