Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

Hi guys

Oberleutnant Engelbert Heiner (15 victories, RK), Staffelkapitän of 12./NJG 6, was killed that day together with his crew Bordfunker Feldwebel Max Rosenbaum and Bordschütze Unteroffizier Edwin Hübner after their aircraft was shot down in aerial combat eight kilometers southwest of Gelnhausen in Hessen. Apparently, they were the victims of W/O D Taylor of 157 Sqn, RAF. Does the usual loss list information exist for this incident? Many thanks.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

Hello,
crew of four, one bailed out with Parachute, landet near RR-Track and resued by foreign labours! (Story was in local Newsletter about 1993).

Heiner was an former Bomberpilot and was held in Candian PoW Camp until mid 1944 when we has exchanced by IRK. Trained then as Nightfighter Pilot,
Gerolzhofen was home of 10., 11. & 12/ NJG 6. Have a lot of phots from Heiner and crew/Ju 88.

Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

Hello hanshauprich

Many thanks for your response. I was not aware that he was a prisoner for some time as the information that I had seen stated that he served as an instructor with IV./KG 27 prior to undergoing night fighter pilot training in summer 1944. Do you have any additional details about the circumstances of his capture? I have seen mention of the aircraft in question being Ju 88 G-6 "2Z + AU" but no Werknummer is known to me.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

The fourth crewmember and the only survivor was Ofw. Fritz Dietrich * 4.11.1915 Delmenhorst. Because of the late date it is possibly that no loss list more exists.

Rgds,
Kaczmarek

Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

Hi guys

Many thanks for the additional information. I was aware that he had been shot down on 14 May 1940 and apparently captured although able to make good his escape nine days later or so I have read. My understanding is that the crew on the last mission consisted of: Bordmeßfunker Feldwebel Max Rosenbaum (killed), Bordmechaniker Unteroffizier Edwin Hübner (killed) and Bordbodenfunker Oberfeldwebel Fritz Dietrich (survived).

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Engelbert Heiner - 19 March 1945

Hi,
Sorry I make a mistake! Not OLtn. Engelbert Heiner was the one who relased from CDN PoW Camp, it was Hptm. Kurt-Heinz Weigel, Staffelkapitän 11./NJG 6. He was also an ex-bomber pilot from KG 55, crashed in Sommerset at 25. Sept. 1940. In Canada he simulated an very nervous brake down Officer, he also faked an suizid in the bathroom!!! It must be very real so he was released from PoW-Camp at 2. Mai 1944 and return to Germany. As an ex-bomber pilot he now trained as an Nightfigter Pilot and until summer 1944 he served with IV./NJG 6. He crashed in March 1945 with his Ju 88G-6 2Z+BV WNr. 621077 and his entire crew at the landing for Gerolozhofen near Brünnstadt/Mainfranken. All four KIA.
