Re: He111P2 (1G+GP) May 10, 1940 HUNDELGEM (Be)

Hello,

This series of posts has resulted in the identification of this crash as an He111P-1 of 6./KG27, 1G+GP, WNr2437. This is based upon a photo in the EoE Collection of the wreckage of the badly mangled tail with a visible W.Nr. This plane was apparently utterly destroyed when it crashed into the ground.

We are also presently looking for photos of a 1./LG1 He111H that crashed closer to the Antwerp area on 11 May 1940. In our DB we have this as:

"11 May 1940 1./LG1 Heinkel He111H. Believed shot down by F/Lt W.F. Blackadder, F/O J.M. Bazin, F/O M.H.B. Thompson, P/O H.P. Dixon, and P/O A.S. Dini of No.607 Squadron and crashed near No.8 Westerlosesteenweg, Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium, at 1.00 p.m. BO Fw Heinz Büchner, FF Uffz Theodor Rothfuss, BF Uffz Johann Schmidt, and HS Uffz Hermann Klein-Altstedde all killed. Aircraft 100% write-off."

Does anyone have any photos or further information on this crash? That Staffel lost three He111s that day; we have photos of two of them, one wrecked and one force-landed, but not this one.

Can anyone help?

Hello

no photos, maybe additional unformation

apparently the fights seem to have been very confusing, according to a french source, the He 111 shot down by the 607° Sq is one of 2./KG 27( FF Fw Frantz Ratzing)

one He 111 shot down by 79° Sq ( P/O Appleton) 1./LG 1 crashed Masnuy-Saint-Jean on a house killing the family which lived in.

one He 111 shot down by 85° Sq ( by who ??) 1./LG 1 crashed Heist-op-den-Berg on a house ( Owner L. Van Vlaan deren )

one He 111 shot down by 85° Sq ( Sgt Allard ) 1./LG 1 ( L1+FH)

then? obviously this is very confusing at first glance!

further informations?

regards
