USAAF War Diaries vendors

Hello guys,

one little question. I have located a number of documents in airforcehistoryindex.org and would like to obtain them for my research, related to the USAAF in WWII. I have found a website named "Fold3" where a big number of historical documents is held. The question is, with the following data can I locate these archives in fold3 or any other vendor website where I can pay to download them?

Document #1:
IRISNUM: 00073247
OLDACC:5537-141
CALL:SQ-TR-CARR-7-HI
REEL:0000001040
IRISREF:A0967
FRAME:1751
FRAMELST:1767
INDEXID:30

Document #2:
IRISNUM:02005871
CALL:MICFILM 25203
REEL:25203
IRISREF:MAAF 216
FRAMELST:554
INDEXID:51

I sent an inquiry message to fold3 asking how I can locate the document using the above info and what they responded was "Here is a list of all the war diaries: http://www.fold3.com/browse.php#251|hsEUS91ac". Very detailed answer...

Trying to make a common search with the name of the above documents, I found list which unfortunately in only visible to the members who paid for subscription.

I am willing to pay for subscription as weel, but need to know whether I will find what I need or not.

Any ideas?

Re: USAAF War Diaries vendors

Fold3 has a big WWII War Diary section, but it is almost 100% US Navy (and Marines).

On the other hand, the site has more or less the whole batch of the MACR produced by the USAAF during the war.

And there is another section called WWII European Theater Army Records where there are some reports related to USAAF, but from what I saw there are rather directives or general intelligence reports than war diaries (there are some journals of rear/administrative services too).

Thank you!

So what is the best solution for obtaining war diaries from Squadrons of the USAAF online?

AFHRA Maxwell AFB, Montgomery/Alabama, has all of the surviving USAAF group and squadron historical manuscripts and can copy them for you at reasonable cost. Go to their website and click on "Contact". Write and ask them for a quote and purchase order blank for the titles you want.

Hello all,

To ask to AFHRA Maxwell AFB (http://www.afhra.af.mil/) did we need documents' references ? If yes, what's the way to obtain them ?

Regards

Alfred

Re: USAAF War Diaries vendors

Hi Alfred M. -

Yes and no. It is generally easier for AFHRA if you know the exact and correct title, file number or decimal number of the item(s) you want. If you do not have this information, then you can try and find it here:

http://www.airforcehistoryindex.org/

If you cannot find it, then in your e-mail to them you can ask in general terms and request that they identify and locate the item for you. Here might be a typical example:

"I would like to purchase all historical records of the 781st Bombardment Squadron, August 1943 to July 1945. Please send me a quote and the necessary purchase order form that I will need to complete."

Hope that helps,

L.
