93rd BG Loss
Hello,
Looking for an answer to this oddity. From various websites I find the following - 93 BG 2nd March, 1944 MACR 3980 Has anyone got a copy of this report or has seen it ? Reason for request is this - I found the following - 454 BG 12th April 1944 MACR 3980. In Fold3 this report is available. The a/c serial was 42-99802, the report however can be found by serial number 42-92802, which is an incorrect serial number for the report But nothing found for the 93BG with the 3980 MACR report number ? I checked the Group details and found that there was indeed one loss on this date( 2nd March,44). Which was MACR 2907, 42-100345, pilot 2Lt. Charles W. Mankind Jr. So what of the other 93 BG MACR 3980 ? Alex |

Re: 93rd BG Loss
Hello Alex,
in MACR 3890 (not 3980) are listed: American report 17 April 1944 2Lt Andrew J Logan O-682200 was the navigator in A/C 42-100320 on an operational mission against Frankfurt on 2 March 1944. On the return course during a heavy flak barrage, Lt Logan bailed out. The reason is not known. American report 19 April 1944 In view of the fact that neither aircraft nor crew is missing, it is believed that a missing air crew report is not necessary. German report casualty no. KU 700A Date: March 2 1944 Place: Luxemburg Type: Liberator Logan, Andrew J. 2nd Lt, born Dec 28, 1923 taken prisoner. American report 30 April 1944 Theater records indicate status of 2nd Lt Andrew J Logan as „Captured“, 2 March 1944. Regards Leo |

Re: 93rd BG Loss
Hello Leo,
Yes I have read the Logan, 42-100320 report but that was for the 93 BG, 3rd February 44, MACR 3890. There is also the 454 BG 12th April 44, 42-99802 report MACR 3980. But what of 93 BG MACR 3980 report for 2nd March, 44 ? Surely there would not be a report instigated unless there was an event to warent one ? These same numbered reports ( 3980 ) were for two different Bomber Groups and for two different dates ? Alex |

Re: 93rd BG Loss
Hello Alex,
there is no MACR report 3890 for the 3rd February 1944 and no report 3980 for the 2nd March 1944. The entries in the AAIR database MACR 3890 440203 AC NOT LOST 93 and MACR 3980 440302 AC NOT LOST 93 are a mistake. Correct is MACR 3890 440302 AC NOT LOST 93. The MACR 3890 relates to the loss of 2nd Lt Logan on 2nd March 1944 and the MACR 3980 relates to the loss of the 42-99802 crew on 12th April 1944. If you start the keyword search "MACR 3890" in Fold3 you get a connection of the report 3890 with the serial 42-100320. The keyword search "MACR 3980" leads to the serial 42-92802 (correct 42-99802). Re: 93rd BG Loss
"If you start the keyword search "MACR 3890" in Fold3 you get a connection of the report 3890 with the serial 42-100320.
The keyword search "MACR 3980" leads to the serial 42-92802 (correct 42-99802)." Hello, that's where I started. "The MACR 3890 relates to the loss of 2nd Lt Logan on 2nd March 1944 and the MACR 3980 relates to the loss of the 42-99802 crew on 12th April 1944." See my earlier post re 42-92802 being in error. Craig Fullers database and the armyairforces.com database both have the reports in their lists. So You are saying that both databases are in error in regard to 93BG MACR 3890 and 3980 ? MACR refers to missing airman report. A/c not lost refers to the a/c returning . In the case of a/c not lost , in general the a/c serial number is not included in the MACR. It is these serial numbers and airmen that I am endevering to complete, So far of approx 140 I have around 120. Hence my question about these two macr's. Additionally 42-100320 was salvaged on the 10th March,44 Alex |
