JU88D-1 1(F)/33 lost 11 October 1943

Does anyone have details of the cause? It's mentioned in HMAW (V.4). My interest is linked to two claims for a Ju88 made the day before. Could the dates be confused?

Regards

Keith

Re: JU88D-1 1(F)/33 lost 11 October 1943

On checking GQM found two entries for the 11-10-43 on report dated 14-10-43 page 4 :-

I(F)/33 Ju 88D-1 8H+KH 0430 cause and location unknown 100% No crew details shown

3(F)/123 crew of Ltn Rainer Berneburg missing cause and location unknown no aircraft details shown.

Would this indicate the loss of one aircraft of I(F)/33 with a crew from 3(F)/123 ?

Checking in the book 'The Easter Bunnies' by Roman Gastager of 3(F)/123 it has on the 10-10-43 the crew of Ltn Rainer Bernezung failing to return from harbour and sea recon. fate unknown . Mission possibly on 10/11-10-43 ?

I believe the Ju88D-1 was crewed by members of 3(F)/123, so there's a link there. Many thanks Brian,

I can find no details of Ltn Rainer Bernezung, have you any information on him? HMAW has the pilot as Fw Karl Sutter as the pilot but no details on him either

It does indicate that three of the aircrew were from 1(F)/123.

My interest is based on a claim by GC2/7 for a Ju88 shot down near Ajaccio. The mission assigned to this Ju88 seems to fit more exactly than the claim for another Ju88 probably shot down over Campobasso.
