Re: Highest scored VVS IAP in WWII
A bit late, but here is what I have about this :
812 IAP scored, AFAIK, 505 kills (though I don't know wether these are only aerial victories or all aircraft destroyed...). Just like 402 IAP and a few other high scoring units, 812 IAP was a Yak unit part of general Savitskii's 3 IAK, and was never made a Guards unit, for unknown reasons but perhaps not unlinked to the "particular" personality of Savitskii. As far as aces are concerned, the following flew with 812 IAP : - Sr. Lt. I.V. Fedorov : 36 kills + 1 shared, who scored more than 10 kills on a 37mm-armed Yak-9T and at least one on one of the few 45mm-armed Yak-9Ks. - Lt-Col. I.F. Popov : 26 kills, killed 11/12/1944 in an accident. - Capt. D.V. Djabidze : 19 +2 shared ? (approximately, sources are varying) And there were many others but I couldn't list them without doing more research... Hope this can help, Kolya. |
