Re: Mercedes-Benz DB605 Late War Documentation

You can also try Avia as they build the S-99 with the DB605. You never know of they have something in a corner of a shed.

Yes, thanks Snautzer. Your link to that Lehrbuch compilation is interesting. Not certain that it is a photocopy? The info in that item, I have completely. It is the technical teaching notes of the DB 601E / 603 and 605A for budding Luftwaffe engine mechanics. A very nice compilation though but, not rare info compared to the late engines.

There's also a Swedish language DB 605 A handbook with some 50-60 nice often colourized fold-out illustrations for the engine built on license - obviously no late war material though

Thanks Mikael. Is this online or ebay? I have a copy of the Swedish overhaul manual for the 605A/B. What you are describing sounds like the Swedish Motoren-Handbuch? It is essentially the German material, in Swedish, but very useful for modern work on the 605A/B.

Thanks Snautzer! Most of my material is copies, and this is best in the workshop! That 601/603/605 compilation is very overpriced for a copy, IMO. I think the seller would sell many if he just sold them at about 100 Euro.
If it is original, it is worth that price.
Thank you for encouraging the debate here! I can say that, working on these engines for 30 years, we have found many contradictions and confusions. Today, the mysteries of the 605 up to about the 605AS are completely understood for the flying engines. However, as I say, technical documentation is lacking for some of the late engines. There is no chance that anyone will try to operate a late engine at power above the 1.42/2800 rating but, it will be great to know the technical details of the late engines and, get this information into the history books, not the present mixture that is inaccurate in many aspects. Cheers

Re: Mercedes-Benz DB605 Late War Documentation

The Swedish handbook that I have in my collection is named "Provisional description of engine Type DB 605" and was published 1946, it is not a maintenance book. It contains a description of the various sections of the engine and how you install it in the relevant Swedish aircraft e.g. SAAB 18 and SAAB 21. Since I've not seen the German DB 605 manuals I can't say if the illustrations are the same or if they were made in Sweden.
