Feldflugplatz Leipzig
Members may find this of interest. Notice 2 more airplanes in the treeline, one to the left and one to the right and the large underline crosses. The back of the photo is marked Feldflugplatz Leipzig.

Re: Feldflugplatz Leipzig
Well, that certainly isn't the huge Luftwaffe Fliegerhorst and Industrieplatz at Leipzig-Mockau. Perhaps it's the dummy airfield at Leipzig-Goebschelwitz, about 2.8 km north of Leipzig-Mockau, which was possibly turned into a Feldflugplatz during the winter of 1944-45. As of 29 May 1944, L-Mockau was not known to have had any nearby satellite strips. But the most likely possibility is that the photo shows a taxiway and dispersal parking along the Autobahn which ran parallel along the north boundary of L-Mockau airfield. This would be consistent with Luftwaffe practice during the last 4 to 6 months of the war.

Re: Feldflugplatz Leipzig
Leipzig/Rom. was used by JG, SG and NSGr. units Apr to Jul/Aug 44. There is no evidence that twin-engine aircraft ever used it even though they could have, nor was it used during the winter months because of the absence of infrastructure. Furthermore, the pine trees in the photo are the norm for central Germany but not for Moldavia.
L. Leipzig (ROM/UKR) (e. Leipzig) (46 01 N – 29 27 E) General: airfield in present day Moldova 122 km SSE of Kishinev, 70 km W of Akkerman and 5 km NE of the village of Artsyz. Rated for bombers. 1941 measured 1000 x 1500 meters with no infrastructure. Air Units (Luftwaffe): (go to Google and enter: Leipzig site:ww2.dk ). Station Commands: Station Units (on various dates): 10.(Flum.Funk)/Luftgau-Nachr.Rgt. 25 (c.Apr-Aug 44); |

Former Leipzig village (Серпневе / Serpneve now - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpnewe) is about 20 km northwest. And it´s Ukraine now, not Moldova. |
