Force-landed He 111 of KG 26, Oslo April 1940

Hi all

Does anyone know the story behind this force-landed Heinkel He 111, which was apparently photographed at Oslo airfield on 12th April 1940? The ID letters are very hard to make out but I am fairly sure it is '1H' (KG 26) and think it might be '1H+CS'.

Any help is welcome.

Thank you both, that seems to confirm this is 1H+LS. Good spotting Jim - I missed that 'L' on the wing!

Your help is much appreciated.

The Steenbeck KG 26 book has He111 H 1H+LS 8/KG26 Fl.P. Oslo-Fornbu Damaged by flak, on landing the right undercarriage failed crew of Ff.Oblt. Horst von Besser unhurt. On page 82 there is another photo taken from the side of this incident showing the code 1H+LS

Re: Force-landed He 111 of KG 26, Oslo April 1940

Hi Tim.
Sorry to be a pest, but I agree with your original call of 1H+CS. Blown up and cleaned up a bit, to me the letter after the + is clearly curved.
Also, the L shape at the front of the wing seems to me an odd place for a code letter. I don't recall ever seeing one in that position before either ....
Just saying, don't discard it yet.
Cheers
Peter

Thanks to all for your input. It seems to fit LS well so I think this is most likely. Thanks Brian - that sounds a pretty convincing match.

In the book I mentioned there is a photo from a different angle where you can the underside of the posrtside wing and there you can see a L and a S.
