Re: W/CDr David Tough

I have checked the GRO overseas RAF deaths 39-48 and there is no Wing/Cdr David Tough

There is no England and Wales death of that name either on the death index for 1937-1961.

Re: W/CDr David Tough

is this the memorial?
https://ca.billiongraves.com/grave/David-Tough/18155900

Foveran Cemetery, Aberdeenshire

Maybe its a typo for merchant seaman David Wright TOUGH died 1942? SS Blairatholl

He had an address at "ben Rinnes", Aberdeen, Fife.

Re: W/CDr David Tough

James Kemp TOUGH's fathers name was David too!

so maybe things got very mixed up post war when the community gathered the names?

Re: W/CDr David Tough

Hello Dennis,
Is it possible that his father was also RAF, perhaps retired , hence the confusion ?

Re: W/CDr David Tough

Hi All,

The memorial is at Foveran, under the 1939/1945 part

on it "W/CDr DAVID TOUGH"

This is as per the link Dennis added a few posts up .....

If it was James Kemp Tough, I would have thought he would be buiried in Tarves rather than Foveran?

12-Apr 1944

TOUGH, JAMES KEMP (35036) age: 46 RAF

Wg Cdr

He was serving in the UK but the exact cause has yet to be ascertained, his death being registered in Bristol. He is buried in Bristol (Canford) Cemetery

Regards

Alan

Re: W/CDr David Tough

Alan,

If indeed J.K. Tough, then the London Gazette of 4 June 1943 has him in the Technical Branch.

Flight Magazine of 13 July 1944 reports 'Died on Active Service' for Wing Cdr. Tough.

Earlier he's mentioned to be a Commissioned Engineer Officer with Home Aircraft Depot, No. 24 (Training Group), Henlow: https://digital.nls.uk/british-milit...=transcription

All this under the suggestion that he is "your" Wing Commander...

Regards,

Leendert

Re: W/CDr David Tough

Alan,

If any subscribers here to the online British Newspaper Archive, there appears to be an article/obituary in the Aberdeen Weekly Journal of 20 April 1944 notifying the death of Wing Commander J.K. Tough.
So a more tangible Scottish connection after all?

Regards,

Leendert
