Isn't this a component plate as opposed to an aircraft plate?

Bonjour Jean Luc,

in order to to help you, would you have further information about this crash ?

Like :
- circumstances of the crash (could you meet any witness or gather a testimony ? I know it is getting hard, but this is key)
- date of the crash ?
- fate of the pilot ?

Also, a picture of the plate will be helpful as it will provide more information, can you post it ?

All best

GC

Bonjour Gilles ,
Thank you very much for your message concerning the plate .
I do not have much information about the crash of that plane .
I had questioned tne owner ( now deceased ) of the field about 10 years ago,but
he didn't remember exactly the date , but according to him, it
would have happened in the spring 1944 . Regarding the fate of the pilot,
and according to him ,he would have parachuted.
I have enclosed a photo of the plate.
Merci encore de votre aide.
Regards
Jean-Luc

Hello Chris ,
I think and according to other opinions, that it is the main plate of identity of this plane .
I have attached the photo.
Thanks for your interest.

Jean-luc

Post Re: BF 109 G-6 Wr 162768

hello,

this type of data plate is the
"Geräte-(Typenschild) MeN 16614",
edition from march 1943

it is stamped with:
"Gerät-Nr."
"Werk-Nr."
"Hersteller"

occurrence: 1x per aircraft cell

maybe this helps!?

best regards

Re: BF 109 G-6 Wr 162768

Salut Jean Luc and thank you for the information.

Without any date, it will be hard to find, I guess that quite a few 109G6 crashed in Normandy in 1944.

All the more if the pilot was safe, then the German Archives would not have written his name.

Maybe would you find any other remains from the crash site that could provide information ?

Maybe could you also look for testimonies from elder people around ?

Ask also for notebooks : during the war, people were often writing the everyday life in their "carnets" and the important events are were noted.

Like in the attachment "avion allemand tombé à Gastefer".

This may be a path.

Good luck et bonne chance

Gilles

The nearest I have is W.Nr. 162760, red 3 of I./JG 4 (Fw. Schäfer) which was shot down over Yugoslavia on 30 June 1944 — not much help!

What do you think about 162765 lost on 28/9/1944 at ... St. André de l'Eure?
10./JG3.
Regards,
Franck.
