Spitfire Canopy Panel
Can anyone tell me the function of the small oval panel on the port side of the Spitfire canopy?

Re: Spitfire Canopy Panel
It was supposed that breaking the panel will equal pressure inside and outside the cockpit, thus allowing to eject the canopy. There were several problems with that, as airstream sucked canopies onto fuselages.

Re: Spitfire Canopy Panel
Thanks Franek, it's an interesting concept. It must have worked as that style was retained through a number of Marks.
Wonder why no other manufacturer used it. |
