S/Sgt. Vernon E. Timman, - 18029120
Hello,
Seeking details of fellow crew members of S/Sgt. Vernon E. Timman, 18029120. He became a POW on the 3rd October, 1944. He served with the 305th Bomber Group. There is an MACR (9354) for this date, and is in Fold3. However for some reason it appears in an (to me) unreadable state. Aircraft was a B17 , serial number 43-38151 with 9 crew. This a/c went down a few days after the Timman event on the 7th October, 44. There are about 40 pages in the MACR, BUT only the first 10 apply to the 3rd October 44, Timman event. The rest apply to the a/c eventual loss on the 7th October 44 ( MACR 9355) and is quite readable.10 crew names are known. So I would like to know the names of the other 8 crew, when Timman became pow on the 3rd October, 44. OK, I found the names. They were: Pilot: Van Fleet, Joseph L. Jr. C.Pilot: Morris, James Harp. Nav: Weinstein, Maurice J. Bomb: McKenzie, Delmar D. Ball/T: Smith, Daniel - Sgt - 18034050(?). TailG: Slivyak, John C. - Sgt - 13042050(?). WaistG: Nanneman, Ernest J. - Sgt. WaistG/RO: Brelsford, Horace -Sgt. Can anyone confirm and/or add rank/service number for them please ? Thanks for any help Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 14th March 2018 at 04:51. |

Re: S/Sgt. Vernon E. Timman, - 18029120
Hello UDF 00,
Thank you for the answer and link, which I have not to my memory seen before. The reason for the question was that I have been a little puzzled as to why this 43-38151 ( Timman ) loss 3rd October 1944, MACR 9354 had no mention in 8&9 AAF Losses vol 5, except in relation to 43-38066. MACR 9355 ( Bailey ) is on the 7th, page 37, but no mention of the Van Fleet crew - first 10 pages? But the Van Fleet crew were mentioned on the 3rd October in relation to a/c 43-38066, page 552. It noted that 43-38066 was in collision with 43-38108 on the 14th October (MACR's 9474 & 9475 respectively) pilots Nichols & Gustafson. These are noted under that date in the book, page 59. Of interest all three a/c were of the 305BG/365BS. The only difference in the names of the Van Fleet crew is that Nanneman is spelt Hanneman ? So perhaps I got his name wrong ? But it has Nanneman in American air museum.com, born Pedrichtown New Jersey. I could only find this - https://www.fold3.com/image/619139744?terms=Nanneman There are some Hanneman's listed but not same christian names or Group. So was the Van Fleet a/c 43-38066, OR 43-38151( as given in fold3) ? Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 16th March 2018 at 19:53. |
