Seeking full W.Nr. of Ju88A-1 9K+HM of 4./KG51 SD on 5.6.40 NE of Chaumont France
Hello,
I'm seeking further photos for profile work, and the full W.Nr. of the above Ju88A as follows: "June 5, 1940: 4./KG51 Junkers Ju88A-1 (29). Shot down by Capt Williame, Lt Husson, S/Lt Audebert, and Sgt de Puybusque of GC I/2 south of Troyes during sortie to attack Tours airfield and belly-landed between Treix and Andelot, north-east of Chaumont, 1.45 p.m. FF Lt Hans-Joachim Zobel captured wounded, BO Oberlt Peter Herr, BF Fw Edgar Tocha, and BM Oberfw Karl Graffenberger captured unhurt – all later released. Aircraft 9K+HM 100% write-off." This carried the number "29" in a fancy numeral on both sides of the rudder tip. Is this the full W.Nr? or only a partial number? I have some photos of this one from the SHA-D, as well as from an earlier post from Remi on this web board, but I'm still attempting to learn the full W.Nr. and acquire further high res images of this incident for profiling purposes. Regards, |

Re: Seeking full W.Nr. of Ju88A-1 9K+HM of 4./KG51 SD on 5.6.40 NE of Chaumont France
Hi Larry,
here are the Ju 88 A-1 possibilities: 0029 was at Rechlin in Mar 1940. 0229 was at Rechlin in Aug 1940. 0299 was missing in Oct 1940. 0329 was manufactured in Jul 1940. 2129 was manufactured in May 1940. 4029 was with KG 54 in Sep 1940. 4129 was with LG 1 in Dec 1940. 5029 was manufatured in Apr 1940. There was 5018, 5028 and 5053 with KG 51 in June 1940. 7029 was manufactured in Apr 1940. There was 7036 with KG 51 in July 1940. 7129 was manufactured in Aug 1940. 8029 was manufactured in Apr 1940. There was 8027 with KG 51 in Apr 41. Based on the above I think it is either 5029 or 7029. Sorry no more additional help, Regards, Norbert |

Norbert,
Thanx for taking the time to search out these possibilities. I'm wondering if this could be "0029," which you place at Rechlin in March, 1940. Could it have been transferred to II./KG51 in time for the WC/FC? Does it appear after early June in the listings anywhere? Almost all KG51 Ju88As during the 1939-40 period had their full W.Nr. neatly painted in small white numbers at the top of both sides of the vertical fin, but this is one of the rare exceptions to this rule, which also makes it interesting to profile.
