FYI: This JG 77 Bf 109 E photo was sold already two times in 2007. 4./JG 77 emblem visible under the cockpit.

...and this one http://cgi.ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=220215849004

shows Bf 109Es presumably from 3./JG 77 at Herdla in summer 1941, never seen it before. Lovely photo. Thanks for posting, ed!

Regards,

Kjetil

Re: Photos 3-24

Kjetil,

are you sure that this is Herdla? I think they are from 3/JG54 (emblem? below the canopy).

Robert

Robert

Difficult to see. Is it a top hat?

Would have thought the location (buildings) are more important to the location. Does the buildings indicate Herdla. Will have to have a look in Mombeek's book.

Summer 1941 JG54 were re-equipping with the F model and it is known a number of E models of JG54 ended up with JG77/JG5.

As Kjetil says, nice photo.

regards

MS

Re: Photos 3-24

Just found this.

http://www.normarts.com/8.cfm

Seems to indicate the painting is based on good research as the accommodation building in the photo and picture seem to be the same.

As Kjetil is in Norway and knows Herdla I would assume he would know.

regards

Mark

Re: Photos 3-24

Hi guys.

Without a shadow of doubt this is Herdla. Take a look at this photo which shows the Gefechtstand of 3./JG 77 at Herdla in 1941 in more detail. This is the same building which can be seen in the upper left side of the new photo.

Note the building to the extreme left in the photo above - it was a moveable small hangar made to resemble a barn, except that barns in that construction style did not exist in Norway!

The dark camouflage of the Emils are noteworthy, this was a feature of many of these aircraft.

Regards,

Kjetil
