AceS New Magazine
Hello.
I am proud (of course , I am the chief editor) to announce the release of a new French magazine: AceS. It is a beautiful quarterly about the Aces where you will always learn something new about these pilots. As for example in this first issue how James Denis shot down HJ Marseille twice and how the latter forgot to claim one victory (his 159th ) with full infos... http://www.aerostories.org/~aerobiblio/article5332.html By advance thank you.

Re: AceS New Magazine
Why, oh why, can't British publishers publish similar stuff instead of the crappy Flypast or Aeroplane Monthly (used to be good, but ever since Richard Riding left, quality went down)?

Re: AceS New Magazine
..and published by Heimdal - armour fans will know the quality of their work. I agree, Jukka, our UK publishers seem to exist on a diet of nice & glossy restored warbirds, Spitfires and the like, far too parochial all round, while only in France ( and to a lesser extent in Germany) do they do 'real' aviation writing and research. Although every editorial seems to bemoan the fact that its getting increasingly difficult to make any sort of living in aviation publishing...that said Flypast this month has Thomas on Buffaloes over Singapore and Forsyth on the Me 262

Re: AceS New Magazine
Even the supposedly more in-depth "The Aviation Historian" suffers from some defects like an aversion to in-depth studies on WW2 aviation. One really has to ask that isn't there really better aviation history topics than reminiscences of a British air stewardess...

Re: AceS New Magazine
May I suggest in future they could enclose an English insert like the old Flugzeug from Germany did? Or even a downloable file direct from the publisher´s site like the ones from Luftwaffe in Focus does?

Re: AceS New Magazine
Dear FalkeEins,
Thank you for the alert on the Jan. 2017 issue of FlyPast. I agree with your assessment of the quality of today's main British aviation magazines. However, with Robert Forsyth as an author, I elected to buy the issue sight unseen, an indication of the esteem I hold for Robert. Yes, there is a lot of coverage now on the various restoration projects and not enough good, solid history articles. On top of that, the writing accompanying the restoration photos can be very sloppy, creating "facts" out of thin air for which there really is no evidence to support them. However, since I have assisted with Me 262 restoration/new build projects, I do appreciate being able to follow their progress. Regards, Richard |
