Hawker Hurricane P2698- 79 Sqdn - Overshot in fog during night landing and hit dispersal pen at Biggin Hill.

25-6-40

Hawker Hurricane - L1897 - 6 OTU - Stalled low flying, hit ground at Upwell, Norfolk.

Hawker Hurricane - P2956 - 145 Sqdn - Hit windsock on night take off and crash landed Tangmere.

30-6-40

Hawker Hurricane - P3787 - 151 Sqdn - Shot down into sea off Ramsgate, Kent.

Supermarine Spitfire - 222 Sqdn - damaged by cannon shell on night interception, crash landed near Hemswell.

Supermarine Spitfire - 603 Sqdn - cannot find details.

26-6-40

Hawker Hurricane - N2704 - 607 Sqdn - Stalled dived into ground 1/2 mile S of Sedgfield, Co Durham. DBF.

Supermarine Spitfire - N3190 - 602 sqdn - Abandoned over Pentland Hills, Midlothian.

27-6-40

Hawker Hurricane -P3778 - 17 Sqdn - Unauthorised flight by a non pilot, crashed near Quendon, Newport, Essex, DBf.

Could find nothing else, would be interested to hear of the 603 Sqdn loss on the 25/26th.

thank you very much for your infos. The Hurricane P3787 was shot down probably by 3/JG20 pilots but they located the claim "west of Etaples".
What do you know about 14.06.40 (only combat losses)?

Well i have just spent an hour typing out a reply and then lost it so here is a short version.

Could only find four, all Hurricanes.

No serials though. and one pilot.

1 sqdn
73 Sqdn - P/O. David N. W. L. Anthony, KIA.
111 Sqdn
245Sqdn

from JG26 War Diary vol 1 and 2 found the foloing -

17.15 - 22k SE of Vernon-breval - A.Galland - Blenheim
17.28 - Evreux - A. Galland - Defiant/ Battle
17.40 - Dreux - Blume - Battle
17.50 - ? - Gártner - Defiant/Battle
17.50 - ? - Sprick - Hurricane
17.53 - Vernon -Ebbinghausen - Defiant

Ltn. Gustav "Micky" Sprick, claimed a Hurricane.

From Tony Woods pages can be found the following claims for British a/c.

Landry - Battle
Tiedmann - Battle
Tismar - Battle
Schiller - Skua
Hott - Hurricane
Reinhold - Hurricane
Sidow - Hurricane
Montag - Hurricane
Scherer - Spitfire
Haase - Hurricane
Konopka - Hurricane
Seehausen - Hurricane
Grau - Spitfire
Galland - Blenheim
Galland - Defiant
Blume - Defiant
Gártner - Defiant
Sprick - Hurricane
Ebbinghausen - Battle
Tietzen - Battle

I could find no Spitfire loss and did not look for the Skua. the hurricane claims outnumber the losses of four as noted in FCL and FCWD.

hope someone can provide pilots names and serial numbers for the Hurricanes form the squadrons noted. and perhaps others if known.

Hi Alex,


thanks a lot. I think that most of the German pilots on this stage of war had problems with enemy a/c types and e.g had mistaken the Hurricane with Curtiss, Morane and even with Battle!
This Skua is very interesting I hope that someone will help with this.
