Any LW loss on the night of 27-28th June 1942 near Rennes?
Good night to all,
Am looking for a damaged twin engined Luftwaffe airplane that may have been damaged during the night of 27 to 28th June 1942 over Brittany, between Rennes and Saint-Malo. Suspected units may be either Stab, II./KG 77 or I./KG 1 that flew from Rennes. The LW machine was surely hit on the left wing. Any combat damage loss on that night or possibly on the 28th for a twin-engined machine is most welcomed. Baumgartner |

Re: Any LW loss on the night of 27-28th June 1942 near Rennes?
Have been informed by the ABSA 39-45 group of a probable identity to the machine I am looking for. Sadly they do have no more details...
A Dornier Do 217 landed that night at DINARD with some kind of damages (it seems so). Is there any record of a damaged Do 217 who may have landed therefore at Dinard on the 28th June 1942? Is the Gruppe known, codes and eventually the crewmembers? Baumgartner |

KG 1 is doubtful in June 1942. Two losses in Deutschland, one at Comiso the rest on East Front... And no Dornier at all.
Same thing (more or less: Stab) for KG 77, and still no Dornier ... Now, if we look for a 217 in June, left KG2 and KG40; but all taking-off from Holland. Nothing reported at said date. (At least in Michael Balss list) |

KG 2 was active that night, KG 40 not so. One aircraft shot down over UK, two near Evreux with technical problems so nothing I'm afraid. Rennes was too far away from KG 2 and KG 40's bases in any case. Optimistic or no damage at all

Franck and Chris,
Thank you for the help. Am trying to determine what this Intruder pilot damaged...I knew that KG 2 could be active too due to the claim of Karel Kuttelswacher, but his claim was on the night of 28-29...so not on the same night. Yes, a long shot...anyway, thanks for the help. A. |
