Lt E.R. Gaudet 524thFS lost 24/6/44

Hi guys

In 514th Fighter Squadron's potted history on Google, there is mention of the loss of Lt E.R. Gaudet in a P-47 as being a "deep secret".

Does anyone know what this implies?

Cheers
Brian

Apologies for mistakingly typing 524th in heading!

Re: Lt E.R. Gaudet 524thFS lost 24/6/44

Brian,

Story seems to imply that they didn't know why Lt Gaudet was lost as opposed to the other pilot lost that day, Lt L.C. Beck who was shot down by Luftwaffe fighters. (This was Lt Levitt C. Beck Jr who got down allright but was betrayed, picked up by the Germans and sent to Buchenwald, got seriously ill and died there on 29 Nov 1944).
Lt Edward R. Gaudet, KIA 29 June 1944 near Evreux, France in P-47 42-8682, buried at Lorraine American Cemetery.

Regards,

Leendert
