KG 30 attack in Barents Sea on 4 Nov 42

Hi,

Steamship Dekabrist was sunk by Ju 88 aircraft of KG 30 on 4 November 1942 in the Barents Sea. First-hand reports from crewmembers is that she was attacked with both bombs and torpedoes. Can someone confirm that account? Were the Ju 88 aircraft from KG 30 at that time equipped to launch torpedoes? Would they have been deployed in this manner? Can someone validate that torpedoes were used in this attack?

Thanks

Marty

KG 30 was a dive-bombing as opposed to torpedo unit so I would say it was KG 26 if it was a torpedo that got this ship

Thanks. I had originally believed it was attacked by KG 26. Can anyone verify if KG 26 was involved in this attack?

Hi,

one important addition: around midday of 5.11.42 the ship had been finished off by a single Ju 88 that bombed the ship.
Torpedo attack on 4.11.42 had been carried out by 12 planes.
Same source.

Regards

Robert

Thanks. I'm hoping to get validation from German sources that KG 26 was involved in this attack. Can anyone help.

One of the most exhaustive depictions of the attack by Sorokazherdev suggests that KG 26 was responsible and I'd like to validate.
