Kuhl 3./JG 53 30 Sep 39

Jochen has Fw Karl Kuhl shooting down his first and only aircraft on 30 Sep 39 and Uffz Fritz Kuhl baling out uninjured due to combat on the same day. Jochen only lists Karl Kuhl in the appendices to his JG 53 book-can anyone confirm there were 2 in the same Staffel involved in something on this date?

Re: Kuhl 3./JG 53 30 Sep 39

Chris,

it's correct that the name of the second pilot is Fritz Uhl, who was subsequently posted to 7./JG53, where he was wounded in a mid-air collision on 14 October 1939 over Wiesbaden. I have established this some time ago and inserted it in a revised and much augmented JG 53 chronicle which is an ongoing side-project here. I still feel tied to JG 53, especially because of the many former pilots and ground crew men I had the privilege to meet in the late 1980s/early 1990s.

Best

Jochen

Thanks Jochen. I too think of the times I went to the I/JG 53 reunions & put all 1 Staffel survivors from 1940 back in touch. None left now sadly
