John B Shepherd AFDU 1943-44

Can anyone tell me what position he held at this unit. According to the recent excellent 41 Squadron history he was officer commanding the FAU but I cannot find the full title. I assume he led a sub-section of the unit.

regards

Keith

Thanks but sadly the book is in the National Library collection and I won't be able to make the trip again for a few weeks.

Keith,

Blood, Sweat and Valour 41 Squadron RAF 1942-1945/Brew,Steve. p.901.

Abbreviations. FAU - Fighter Affiliation Unit.

I suggest you post a message over on the RAFCommands Forum, asking Steve Brew (a member), for a precise definition of "Fighter Affiliation Unit".

Col.

Re: John B Shepherd AFDU 1943-44

Cheers Col, will do.

A cursory look on the internet seems to show that "fighter affiliaition" was an aerial gunnery exercise by bombers and fighters which allowed aerial gunners to practice defensive tactics against fighters and for fighters to practice attacking bombers.

regards

Keith
