Besatzung Von Glasow 8th Staffel III/KG53

On the 26.09.1941 the crew of Leutnant Dieter von Glasow flew their first enemy mission. The HE111 assigned to them was A1+LS aka the "Glücksvogel" (lucky bird) of the 8th Staffel according to the crew that flew with it in the past. This HE111 somehow always made it back in one piece.

On the 02.10.1941 Von Glasow and crew where shot down far behind enemy lines. Does someone know if this was with A1+LS?

If A1+LS wasn't assigned to them on that mission, does someone then have info on what happend to the "Glücksvogel" of the 8th Staffel?

Thanks,

Thomas

Re: Besatzung Von Glasow 8th Staffel III/KG53

Thomas,

Looking on the Luft Qm's list it has the loss of A1+FS flown by Fw.Frans Grave as shot down on 2-10-41 with the Bf returning, this is also described in the Kiehl book page 167. Ltn Glasow is shown as missing in the Tula area in the A1+IS on the 23-11-41 (report dated 29-11-41) however an admendment in the report dated 5-11-41 shows the crew of Ltn Glasow as returned (page 169 of Kiehl book).
Ltn Glasow was shot down and taken POW following a raid on the Swansea Docks on 4/5-8-42. Glasow and two of his crew were picked up from their dinghy north of Bude the morning after the raid and fell to a Beaufighter of 125 Sqd.

Re: Besatzung Von Glasow 8th Staffel III/KG53

H Brian,

Thank again for your reply!

You are right, my mistake.

Grave shot down on 02.10.1941 (AI+FS)
Von Glasow Shot down 23.11.1941 (A1+IS)

My other question still stands then, what happend with A1+LS and who was its crew if it was shot down?

Regards, Thomas
