08/04/1943 "abschuss" or not ?

I notice that for the same event, the information are not identical, even from famous authors.

According to Prien,Erwin Janke ( 6/JG 77) gets its 7th abschuss in Tunisia(a P-40) the 8/04/1943.
For Shores,that day,Lt Dumkow(6/JG 51) and Fw Stanneck (4.(H)/12) claim each a P-40.
"Quid" of Janke: abschuss or not for him ??

08/04/1943 "abschuss" or not?

Hi Michel

Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945 Teil 11/II by Prien does not list a victory for that pilot on 8 April 1943. In fact, it appears that JG 77 did not record any victories at all on that date. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo

Ok thanks Leo
it's strange because in its history of the JG 77,it notes one-so 6 abschuss instead of 7 for Janke

Re: 08/04/1943 "abschuss" or not ?

Dear Michel,

I have popinted out several times in the JFV series that the claims listed in the JG 77 unit history published several years before needed a substantial number of corrections and additions since many of the more important sources in this context were not already available when the unit history was written some 25 years ago.

Therefore please notice that if there is a difference in the claims list between the JG 77 unit history and the JFV series, the latter represents our latest state of research.

Jochen, Just a quick question. Are the JG-77 victory claims in the JFV series the same as the Tony Wood files? Thanks
