Michel Gruyelle GCII/7
In following the career of Gabriel Gauthier I find several mentions of Michel Gruyelle. One source credits him with four confirmed and another probable victory in 1940. Others show him as scoring three confirmed in France. Does anyone have a definitive answer?
I should mention that Ciel de Gloire claims four confirmed victories and two probables. He is listed as claiming probables on 3 January and 15 May 1940. However two of the confirmed victories do not appear in "Les Pilotes de la chasse Francais"...but he is credited in the latter with a share in a He111 on 1 June 1940. Therefore he is not credited with victories on 25 and 28 May 1940. In this database: http://www.passionair1940.fr/Armee%2...EN-GC_II-7.htm Four confirmed and one probable are listed. Two confirmed in the D520. Gruyelle claimed another victory in 1943 but he does not appear in "Les as de la Guerre 1939-45". |

Re: Michel Gruyelle GCII/7
Hello
This may help you His last citation dated of Sept.1946 credits him with 5 victories. Cdt Durieux ("Boss" of GCII/7) in his work for the approval of the victories of his pilots credits him with 6 victories + 2 prob "His" vict.prob of 28/05/40 according "ciel de gloire",history of GCII/7, is wrong (shared with Krol,Grimaud,Planchard,Ponteins) In reality the claim ("sur" by Durieux) is only shared between Ponteins/Planchard....confirmed by Ponteins in 1992. Another ex.of difference in the number of victories:Eugeniusz Nowakiewicz (GCII/7):5 victories + 1 prob.(Porret/Thevenet "les as de la guerre 39/45) but only 4 vict.+ 2 prob. The uptated Gruyelle list (according me) 22/11/39=Do-17 shared (1/4) (a) 19/01/40=Bf.109 (b) 07/04/40=Ju-52 shared (1/11) (c) 15/05/40=He-111 prob shared (1/8) (d) 25/05/40=He-111 shared (1/5) 01/06/40=He-111 shared (1/7) (e) 23/09/43=Fw.190 I miss 1 prob. (a) 4(F)/121 (b) 2/JG54 (c) Flieg.Luft.Obdl (d) Réel Stst KG 55 (e) Ju-88 4(F)/121 7A+PM Regards Michel |

Re: Michel Gruyelle GCII/7
Many thanks Michel. Does the French claim system reflect the "patrouille" organisation (i.e. patrouille simple, patrouille legere, patrouille double, patrouille double legere, patrouille triple, patrouille triple legere")? When a victory is awarded it is awarded based on the formation being flown e.g. when it is a "patriouille legere" both pilots receive credit evenif only one fires his guns?
best regards Keith |
