Information concerning the loss of Oberfeldwebel Matthaus Zeltsperger - killed 01.09.1943

Hi,

Can anyone provide information on the unit and loss of Oberfeldwebel Matthaus Zeltsperger who was killed over Ratana in Russia on the 1st September 1943?

He was an experienced flier with the EKI, Golden Flight Badge and Ehrenpokal.

Thanks

Rick

Bordmechaniker, unit unknown. Born Waging 1913, missing in action 55km east of Lemberg 01/09/1943.
Believed to be buried at Solotschiw, Ukraine, the Volksbund hopes to move his remains to a military cemetery.

Strangely the Volksbund has his first name as "Mathies", probably a spelling error.

Hi Rick, would you happen to know whether this Zeltsperger served with 3/KGr.126 during the Battle of Britain period ofJuly to October 1940.
I have a couple of flugbuch pages for a " Zeltsperger" during this time flying with a Lt.Klasen.
He may have served with this unit after they were redesignated as KG28.

Best regs,
Steve.

Hi Steve,

I have found it very difficult to find much information about him full stop especially considering his many awards.

Sorry that I cannot offer any more help.

Rick

Hi Rick, many thanks for your reply.
The Zeltsperger logbook copies I have were scanned from I believe a grouping of award documents I found on the net. I only copied the logbook pages for future reference but I don't have the source!

Best regs,
Steve.
