Re: eBay: Windtunnel model of jet engine?
Hello,
as I know there was no wind tunnel for transsonic flow as it would have been needed for a jet engine. That was one of the biggest problems while the development of the controllers of the Jumo 004, that the engineers were not able to put the jet engine to an engine test stand to develop such a regulator. The jet engine was put under a plane that was making inclination flights (is this the right english word?) for having maximum speed through the engine. It was also not possible to develop the physic phenomena of supersonic speed of air planes, because there were existing no supersonic wind tunnels. But Messerschmitt was building a transsonic/supersonic wind tunnel in the Ötztal (Austria), the codename was "Zitteraal". But it was not finished until the end of the war, so I don't think that this is a Jumo engine on a flow test bench. Regards, Alex |
